« RERUM CREATOR OPTIME ». – Hymn of Matins on Wednesday.
By an unknown author (cf. G. M. Dreves – C. Blume, Anal. hymnica, LI, Leipzig 1908, p. 27 ff.). The soul of the poet, weighed down by sadness, approaches God in a humble attitude of prayer and implores his forgiveness, especially in the final stanza, so full of trusting sorrow.
