Rex Sempiterne Caelitum

REX SEMPITERNE CAELITUM. - Hymn of Matins in Paschal time, by an unknown author of the 5th century, in evident imitation of Ambrose.

The correctors of the 17th century revised it heavily. The hymn is addressed to Christ, eternal king and creator of all things, who in Adam formed man in his own image and likeness and, after sin, redeems him by taking on his form and through Baptism saves him after having redeemed him. The Cross and the Blood of Christ give Baptism its divine power and its fruitfulness.
