REVUE D'HISTOIRE ECCLÉSIASTIQUE. — Journal published by the Catholic University of Louvain, founded in 1900 by A. Cauchie and P. Ladeuze, with the programme of re-examining the external and internal history of all Christian peoples and of setting forth the various elements of the historical method from the standpoint of ecclesiastical history (cf. R. d’h. e., I [1900], p. 28 sqq.). It is the most comprehensive scholarly periodical in the field.
Each annual volume consists of four issues containing articles, critical reviews, chronicles, and a bibliography. The latter, which includes not only books and articles but also the principal reviews of them, has been printed since 1902 in a separate volume and each year collects between 8,000 and 10,000 works. With the year 1952, the collection of the R. d’h. e. comprises 91 volumes.

REVUE D’HISTOIRE ET DE LITTÉRATURE RELIGIEUSES. — Founded in Paris in 1896, with the assiduous collaboration of the modernist A. Loisy, its principal aim was the history of Christianity and of Israel, biblical and Christian literature, and the religions and religious philosophies of the ancient world.
It published leading articles, chronicles, and reports, always maintaining a historical and critical standpoint. Among its contributors were L. Duchesne, P. Lejay, F. Cumont, J. Zeiller, van den Gheyn, and S. Reinach. Publication was suspended in 1910 in conjunction with the repression of Modernism and resumed the same year, under the same programme, as a “new series” under the direction of A. Loisy, only to cease definitively in 1922 after the publication of a further seven volumes.
