REVIEW OF MISSION HISTORY. — In 1924 the Jesuit Fr. Giovanni Battista Piolet founded the association of the “Amis des Missions” and, as its official organ, the R. d'h. d. M. The editorial work was entrusted to Georges Goyau, a member of the French Academy.
Its aim was the study of missionary history, especially that of the French missions, in order to arouse the interest of the educated classes in the Church’s missionary work for national and religious reasons. At the same time, Goyau sought to secure for missionary history its proper place in the universal and cultural history of France. The R. d'h. d. M. was published four times a year until 1939. Then, from its 17th year (1940), it was merged with the journal Études missionnaires, also published by the “Amis des Missions” since 1933, under the title Revue des missions; however, publication ceased in the same year 1940 because of the war. The Neue Zeitschrift für Missionswissenschaft and the Nouvelle Revue de Science missionnaire partly took the place of the R. d'h. d. M. Giovanni Rommerskirchen
