The Spanish garrison and penal colony fall ecclesiastically under the jurisdiction of the Spanish Military Ordinary. Ecclesiastical jurisdiction has been entrusted to the Bishop of the Canaries, who periodically sends a priest to provide religious assistance. Therefore, one cannot speak of a true mission.
