RIO CUARTO, DIOCESE OF. – A city and diocese in the province of Córdoba (Argentina).
It covers an area of 54,300 sq km with a population of 300,000, of whom 295,000 are Catholic. The diocesan clergy consists of 30 secular priests and 36 regulars distributed across 25 parishes. There are 10 male and 18 female religious communities (Ann. Pont. 1952, p. 339).
Pope Pius XI, by the apostolic constitution Nobilis Argentinae nationis of 20 April 1934, erected the diocese of R. C. by separating it from that of Córdoba and raising the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary Immaculate to the status and dignity of a cathedral. It is a suffragan of Córdoba.
