Rio Cuarto, Diocese of

RIO CUARTO, DIOCESE of. — City and diocese of the province of Cordoba (Argentina).

It has an area of 54,300 sq km and a population of 300,000, of whom 295,000 are Catholics. The clergy of the diocese consists of 30 diocesan priests and 36 religious priests distributed among 25 parishes. There are 10 men’s and 18 women’s religious communities (Ann. Pont. 1952, p. 339).

Pope Pius XI, by the apostolic constitution Nobili Argentinae nationis of 20 Apr. 1934, created the diocese of R. C. by division from that of Corboda, elevating the church of the B. M. V. cathedral. It is a suffragan of Cordoba.
