JUJUY, DIOCESE OF. - Diocese and capital city of the homonymous province in Argentina.
The diocese covers an area of 56,551 sq. km. with a population of 166,943, of whom 166,710 are Catholic; it has 17 parishes, 24 diocesan priests and 10 regular priests, one seminary, 2 male religious communities and 5 female religious communities (Ann. Pont. 1951, p. 225).
The diocese was established by Pope Pius XI with the apostolic constitution *Nobilis Argentinae nationis* of 20 April 1934, as a suffragan of the archdiocese of Salta, elevating the church of the Most Holy Saviour to the status of cathedral.
