MODERN ITALIAN SCHOOL. - It is the oldest and most widely circulated magazine of Italian teachers, conceived in 1891 and first published in 1893 by G. Tovini (v.), so that it might serve as a bulwark for the faith of practicing Catholic teachers and present itself with the compelling attraction of an aid to better fulfill the delicate scholastic task.

After a laborious initial period, in 1904 Brescian Catholics founded the Society "La Scuola," a non-profit organization, with the sole aim of increasing the magazine's circulation and expanding its apostolic effectiveness. From that time to the present, its growth has been, thanks be to God, continuous and fruitful.

From S. I. M. were born: Scuola materna, for nursery-school teachers; Supplemento pedagogico, for teachers; Educazione, for families; Publications on religion, philosophy, pedagogy, didactics, art and culture for educators. Textbooks for elementary and middle schools; educational and entertaining books for youth and for adults; teaching aids: projection apparatus with a variety and wealth of related materials, colored wall charts.

Since 1937, the large printing and lithography plant, the premises for editorial offices, administration, shipping, teaching aids, warehouses, refectory, cover an area of 14,000 square meters. 250 people work there.
