PAUL SOLJARSKIJ. — Dissident theologian, b. at Vladimir on the Kljaz’ma in 1803, d. at St. Petersburg on 4 May 1890.
He is the author of the most voluminous Russian work on moral theology (Zapiski po nravstvennomu pravoslavnomu bogosloviu, 3 vols., St. Petersburg 1860–64). This work was long taught in the ecclesiastical academies of the Tsarist Empire as a classical textbook. In its external form it follows the scholastic method, which has drawn sharp criticism from other Russian moralists.
