SOLJARSKIJ, PAUL. – Dissident theologian, b. at Vladimir on the Kijasma in 1803 and d. in Petersburg on 4 May 1890.
He is the author of the most extensive Russian work on morality (Zapiski po mravstvennomu pravosllynomu bogosloviu, 3 vols., Petersburg 1860–64). It was taught for a long time in the ecclesiastical academies of the Tsarist Empire as a classic textbook. In its external form it follows the scholastic method, which earned it harsh criticism from other Russian moralists.
