YUNGKIA, DIOCESE OF. - In the south-eastern part of the province of Chekiang (central China).
It was erected as a diocese, suffragan of Hangchow, on 3 March 1949 from that tract of territory belonging to the mission of Ningpo but which had remained detached from it following the erection of the apostolic vicariate of Tai-chow (q.v.); it is entrusted to the Chinese secular clergy. Area approx. 10,000 sq. km., with approx. 3 million inhabitants, of whom 23,328 are Catholic; priests 58 (34 Chinese); sisters 6 (2 native); 11 dispensaries, 4 orphanages, 57 schools (30 June 1947).
