ABDERHALDEN, EMIL. — Swiss physiologist and biological chemist (1877–1946), professor at the University of Halle. Pontifical academician from 1936. Besides his work as a biological chemist, he is remembered for having founded and directed from 1922 to 1938 the journal *Ethik*, intended to combat certain social ills, and for his appeal in 1918 to join the German medical league for sexual morality. He opposed anti-religious propaganda.
