Abramo of Habran (or of Carrhes), Saint

ABRAMO di HABRAN (o di CARRHES), saint. — Born in the diocese of Cyrus around the middle of the 4th century, he withdrew while still young into the desert of Chalcis. He later moved to a pagan village near Emesa in Lebanon, where he succeeded in converting his persecutors. Despite his desire to return to solitude, he was consecrated bishop of Harran, in Mesopotamia, where he became known for his austerity. Summoned by Theodosius II to the court of Constantinople, he was received with great demonstrations of esteem. A. died shortly after the year 421.
