ADRIANO. — Greek exegete, author of an *Introduction to the Sacred Scriptures* which was already commemorated by Cassiodorus in the *De institutione divinarum litterarum* (I, ch. 10; PL 70, 1122) and praised by Photius (*Bibliotheca*, Cod. 2; PG 103, 45). From the context of the work, which has come down to us in an abbreviated form, it is learned that the author was a monk and priest, Syrian by birth although writing in Greek, and belonging to the exegetical school of Antioch. It seems that A. died between 440 and 450, and that he was in correspondence with Nilus (*Epist.*, II, 60; III, 118, 266; PG 79, 225, 437-516). The critical edition of the *Introduction* was prepared by F. Gössling, Berlin 1887 (cf. also PG 98, 1273-1312).
It appears that Cassiodorus knew a Latin translation of A. (cf. P. Courcelle, *Les Lettres grecques en Occident*, Paris 1943, p. 336, n. 3).
