ADRIANO VAN DEN EECKHOUTE. - Belgian Carmelite, died at Ghent in 1498. Prior of the convent of Ghent in 1466, preacher and confessor at the court of Burgundy, he enjoyed an authority that enabled him to prevail over the murderers of the chancellor Hugonet in 1477. Under him the Carmel of Ghent became a literary center. Of his works, largely destroyed by the Protestants, manuscript commentaries on Boethius and on the Bible have come down to us, along with some sermons.
