ADRIANO van den EECKHOUTE. – Belgian Carmelite, died at Ghent in 1498. Prior of the convent of Ghent in 1466, preacher and confessor at the court of Burgundy, he enjoyed an authority that enabled him to confront those who murdered Chancellor Hugonet in 1477. Under his leadership, the Carmel of Ghent became a literary centre. Of his works, largely destroyed by the Protestants, there have survived manuscript commentaries on Boethius and the Bible, as well as several sermons.
