Ad Mentem (Iuxta Mentem, Iuxta Modum)

AD MENTEM (iuxta mentem, iuxta modum). - It is one of the formulas quite commonly used in the replies customarily given by the dicasteries of the Roman Curia, especially by the Sacred Congregations, and its effect is to add to the rescript some condition or modality that delimits, defines, or even modifies its overly absolute or generic meaning, or to prescribe conditions or modalities for its execution. Such an interpretation, which is generally declared with the words "Mens est...", is not always made public, but is communicated only to the persons concerned in the question proposed.
