ADRIAENSENS, ADRIAEN. — Born at Antwerp; entered the Society of Jesus in 1546 and was superior of the community of Lovanio (1551–61), where he died on 18 October 1580.
After 1567, he published in Flemish a series of treatises on the Pater Norter, Confession, the three evangelical counsels, etc., which possess original value, especially the Van Dinspreken des Heeren (Lovanio 1570, in Latin at Colonia 1601; De divinis inspirationibus). His Spiritual Mountain (Eenen gheestelijchen Bergh, Lovanio 1568) already sketches a more synthetic exposition of the spiritual life. Many of his letters are published in the Monumenta Historica Societatis Iesu (Litt. quadrimestres, Epist. Mixtæ).
