AICHNER, SIMON. — Canonist, born in Terenten (Tyrol) on 19 October 1816, died in Bressanone on 1 November 1911. Professor of canon law at the seminary of Bressanone, then (1884) bishop of the same city and finally (1904) titular archbishop of Theodosiopolis, he wrote a Compendium iuris ecclesiastici, which went through numerous editions and was highly praised for its clarity of exposition and soundness of doctrine.
