AICHNER, Simon. – Canonist, b. at Terenten (Tyrol) on 19 Oct. 1816, d. at Brixen on 19 Nov. 1911. Professor of canon law in the seminary of Brixen, later (1884) bishop of the same city until his death in 1904; titular archbishop of Theodosia. He wrote a Compendium iuris ecclesiastici, which went through many editions and was highly praised for the clarity of its exposition and the solidity of its doctrine.
