Also known as: Latin: Albertus de Hohenberg

ALBERT OF HOHENBERG. - Bishop of Freising, b. ca. 1303 to the counts of Hohenberg, d. 1359. Already in 1317 named canon of Constance, he studied and taught law in Paris until 1329. He was in the service of Emperor Louis the Bavarian from 1340 to 1342, as chancellor of the kingdom. He then went over to the side of Pope John XXII, who in 1349 elected him to the episcopal see of Freising. A Chronicle, published in Basel in 1553 under the name of Albert of Strasbourg, is often attributed to him, but it is probably by Matthias of Neuenburg instead.
