ALBERTO di HOHENBERG. — Bishop of Freising, born around 1303 to the counts of Hohenberg, died in 1359. Appointed canon of Constance as early as 1317, he studied and taught law in Paris until 1329. He served Emperor Lodovico il Bavaro from 1340 to 1342 as chancellor of the kingdom. He then went over to the side of Pope Giovanni XXII, who in 1349 appointed him to the episcopal see of Freising. He is often credited with a Chronicle, published at Basel in 1553 under the name of Alberto di Strasburgo, which was probably instead written by Mattia di Neuenburg.
