ALBUM, L' (Literary and Fine Arts Journal). - Roman illustrated weekly (first of 4, then of 8 quarto pages), founded and directed by Giovanni de Angelis, published from 8 March 1834 to 3 May 1862.

Given also the modest subscription price (Rome, 2.30 scudi; provinces and abroad 3.10; a single issue 5 bajocchi), it constituted the preferred reading of the middle classes. Of a prevalently elementary encyclopedic character, it later dealt with arts, sciences, travels, curiosities. Among the games, the "cifre figurate" (rebuses) of Nini. The archaeological and biographical articles are interesting, the contemporary literary production is poor; very numerous are the portraits engraved on copper; useful for the chronicle of Roman urban planning are the epigraphs collected by A. Belli. Having succeeded, by cautiously keeping silent about events, in surviving during the Republic and the siege in 1849, it fell thirteen years later, the victim of a banal journalistic mishap. It published in fact a spicy tale, summarized in prose from a "novella galante" by Casti: its immediate suppression followed.
