ALBRIGI (ALBRIZI), VINCENZO. — Musician, born in Rome on 26 June 1631, died in Prague on 18 August 1696. He studied in Rome, then became chapel master to Queen Christina of Sweden; he subsequently went to Dresden, to the court of the elector Giovanni Giorgio of Saxony, which he left in 1663, traveling first to London and then to Paris. He returned to Dresden, and in Leipzig was organist of S. Tommaso. In the meantime he had embraced Protestantism, which he abjured in 1682, when he became chapel master at S. Agostino in Prague, where he died. His production of sacred music is considerable: a brilliant organist and harpsichordist, his symphonies and sonatas enjoyed well-deserved renown.
