Augustinians of the Sacred Heart of Mary. — Their origin is unknown. In 1678 the Augustinians of Tours opened two houses at Saumur, one of which took charge of the hospital there. In 1827 a house was entrusted to them in Paris for the care of sick women of the upper classes. Other houses were subsequently opened for the same purpose and for boarding schools for young ladies of good standing. Approved by the Holy See in 1904, today they number barely 100 sisters in 4 houses.
