Augustinian Nuns of the Sacred Heart of Mary

AGOSTINIANE DEL SACRO CUORE DI MARIA

Italian original Cite

AUGUSTINIAN NUNS OF THE SACRED HEART OF MARY. - Their origin is unknown. In 1678 the Augustinian Nuns of Tours opened two houses at Saumur, one of which took over the direction of the hospital existing there. In 1827 a house in Paris was entrusted to them for the care of sick women of the wealthier classes. Other houses were opened later with the same purpose and for boarders of good standing. Approved by the Holy See in 1904, today they are reduced to barely 100 nuns in 4 houses.
