AMADEO, GAETANO. – Composer, born in Porto Maurizio (Imperia) in 1824, died in Nice on 8 April 1893. A pupil of Pacini in Lucca and subsequently of Rossini in Bologna, he was chapel master at the cathedral of Marseille from 1852 to 1875 and enjoyed the esteem and friendship of Thomas and Gounod. He left many sacred compositions: Masses, hymns, psalms, motets, as well as symphonies for orchestra, concertos, romances, etc.
