GAETANO AMADEO. — Composer, b. Porto Maurizio (Imperia), in 1824, d. at Nice on 8 April 1893. Pupil of Pacini in Lucca, then of Rossini in Bologna, maestro di cappella at the cathedral of Marseille from 1852 to 1875, he enjoyed the esteem and friendship of Thomas and Gounod. He left many sacred compositions: Masses, hymns, psalms, motets, as well as symphonies for orchestra, concertos, romances, etc.
