AMADEI, GIROLAMO. - Theologian, born in Siena ca. the year 1483, died in Lucca on 16 Feb. 1543. He was a Servite friar and became vicar general for Germany. Through his teaching of theology in Bologna and Siena and especially through his zeal in combating Lutheran doctrines, to whose refutation he devoted several unpublished writings, he earned the esteem of Pope Adrian VI, who appointed him general of the Order.
