SIXTINUS AMAMA. - Dutch Reformed theologian, b. 1593, d. 1629. He was a profound scholar of the Hebrew language, for which he published two grammars and a dictionary. Hostile to Catholicism, he attacked the official edition of the Vulgate in his *Dissertatiuncula* (Franeker 1618), in the *Censura Vulgatae* (ibid. 1620), and in the *Antibarbarus biblicus* (Amsterdam 1628), later expanded in 1656, in which he claimed to correct all the errors of Catholics regarding Holy Scripture.
