DIOCESE OF ALEXANDRIA IN LOUISIANA. - In the United States, a suffragan of New Orleans. Erected on July 23, 1853 under the name of Natchitoches, it was transferred to A. on Aug. 6, 1910. Catholics number 56,251, out of a population of 884,053 inhabitants. There are 50 parishes, with 55 diocesan priests and 41 religious.
