ALFONSO IV, king of ASTURIAS and LEÓN, called the MONK — Son of Ordoño II, he reigned from 925 to 932. Initially favored by fortune with a victory over the terrible caliph Abderraman, after the loss of Burgos and other territories he was forced, together with the king of Navarre, to bow his head before the proud Arab and withdrew to a monastery.
