ALFONSO V, king of ASTURIAS and LEÓN, called the NOBLE. — Grandson of Ramiro II, he reigned from 994 to 1027. Under him came the great Christian victory at Calatanazor, and the “fueros” laws were drawn up for the kingdom of León, concerning local immunities, that is, those granted to cities, fiefs, and ecclesiastical institutions. These laws were called “Alfonsine” after his name. He died fighting at Viseu.
