ALFONSO di CARTAGENA (ALONSO DE SANTA MARIA DE CARTAGENA). — Son of the converted Jew Paolo di s. Maria, bishop of Burgos (1435) and counsellor to Giovanni II of Castile. He distinguished himself at the Council of Basel. He translated classical works. His works, most of which are still unpublished, are poetic, theological, and historical. He died in 1456.
