AMBROSE, GRENKOV. - Hieromonk of the famous dissident monastery of Optina-Pustyn near Kozelsk in central Russia, b. 1812, d. 1891. He was the last of a series of great startsy, much visited by faithful of every class. Though afflicted by illness for many decades, he still had the strength to found a women’s monastery at Samordino, where he died.
