ANDRONICUS CAMATERUS. — A descendant of the Ducas family and a relative of Emperor Manuel Comnenus, who around 1150 appointed him commander of his guard and governor of Constantinople. He took part repeatedly in the religious assemblies convened by the emperor, in which, despite being a mere layman, he displayed profound theological knowledge.
Between 1170 and 1175 he composed the Sacrum Armamentarium (’Iesèzòs-0vèxòs), an unpublished treatise in dialogue form on the procession of the Holy Spirit, directed against the Latins and the Armenians. John Bekkos, Patriarch of Constantinople, refuted it using the same arguments proposed by A.
