ARINNA, GODDESS OF. — A. was a great city of the kingdom of the Hittites, identified with present-day Kara-Sehir-Hujuk, near the hot springs of Ujuz Hamman. The city lay several days’ journey from the Hittite capital Hattosas.
In A. the chief deity of the kingdom of the Hittites, “the sun of A.,” was honored; this deity is accorded the following splendid attestations: “You, sun of A., are the supreme god, you are the greatest; before you there is no other god equal to you... you are the god who decides destiny... you are the god of justice... To you, ... let sacrifices be offered, and may the other gods have a share in them.”
