ARINTERO-GONZALES, JUAN. — Dominican theologian and writer, born in Lugueros (province of León) in Spain on 24 June 1860, died in Salamanca on 20 February 1928.
He received the Dominican habit at the convent of Corias (Asturias), made his religious profession there, and began his philosophical studies. In 1881 he was transferred to the historic convent of S. Stefano in Salamanca, where he completed his theological formation at the local university. He was ordained priest on 23 September 1883. He spent most of his life devoted to teaching, first at the College of Vergara (Guipúzcoa) from 1886 to 1892, then at Corias until 1898, then at Valladolid until 1903, and finally at Salamanca, where he founded the journal *Vida Sobrenatural*, specializing in mystical questions. In 1910 he became a member of the faculty of the Angelicum in Rome, while at the same time contributing to the scientific journal *Ciencia Tomista*.
His life was exemplary in holiness and apostolate; he became one of the best spiritual directors of his time. In his later years he devoted himself to promoting devotion to the “Amor Misericordioso.”
