ARINTERO-GONZALES, JUAN. - Dominican theologian and writer, born at Lugueros (province of León) in Spain on 24 June 1860, died at Salamanca on 20 Feb. 1928.
Having taken the Dominican habit in the convent of Corias (Asturia), he made his religious profession there and began his studies of philosophy. In 1881 he was transferred to the historic convent of S. Stefano in Salamanca, to complete his theological training at the local University. He was ordained priest on 23 Sept. 1883. He spent most of his life devoted to teaching, first at the College of Vergara (Guipúzcoa) from 1886 to 1892, then at Corias until 1898, afterwards at Valladolid until 1903, and finally at Salamanca, where
he founded the journal «Vida Sobrenatural», specializing in questions of mysticism. In 1910 he was a member of the faculty of the Angelico in Rome, while at the same time collaborating with the scholarly journal «Ciencia Tomista».
His life was exemplary for holiness and apostolate: he became one of the finest spiritual directors of his time. In his final years he devoted himself to promoting devotion to «Amor Misericordioso».
