ARINGHI, PAOLO. – Oratorian, born in Rome in 1600, died there in 1676. He became well known for his Latin translation of Bosio’s Roma sotterranea (v.), which he published in Rome in 1651, reworking it to his own design and adding little in substance but much in verbiage: Romme subterranea novissima in qua post Antonium Bosium antiquam et insignam... et celebres alios scriptores antiqui christiani, ut praecipue martyrum coemeteria... multiplici eruditione declarantur opera et studio P. A. Romani. Unfortunately, this reworking nearly consigned Bosio’s original work and its merits to oblivion.
