ARNALDO di TONGERN. – Augustinian canon regular, born in Tongern at an unknown date, died in Leiden in 1540. Dean of the Faculty of Arts of Cologne and professor of theology and canon law, he took part in the Reuchlin controversy and then wrote the Articoli de indico favore. As is known, Reuchlin spoke in favor of preserving the Hebrew books which, with the permission of Emperor Maximilian, were being sought to be destroyed if they were contrary to the teaching of Christian doctrine.
