ARNALDO of TONGERN. - Augustinian canon regular, born in Tongern at an unknown date, died in Leiden in 1540. Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Cologne and professor of theology and canon law, he took part in the Reuchlin controversy and then wrote the *Articuli de iudicio favore*. As is known, Reuchlin spoke in favor of preserving Hebrew books, which, with the permission of Emperor Maximilian, were being sought for destruction if they contradicted Christian doctrine.
