BACHIACCA. — Pseudonym of the painter Francesco Ubertini, born in Florence on 1 March 1494 and died there on 5 October 1557. His early works, particularly the Depositions from Bassano and the Uffizi, clearly display Umbrian characteristics, which he inherited from his master, Perugino. These traits, though attenuated in other works due to the influence of the styles of Andrea del Sarto, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo, always form the underlying substratum of his art.
Among his best works are to be noted the *Battesimo di Cristo* (London), the *Smontore di liuto* (London, Butler Collection), *L’Angelo e Tobiolo* (Berlin, Simon Collection), and the *Smontatrice di liuto* (Florence, Contini-Bonacossi Collection).
