BAIA DI JAMES, VICARIATO APOSTOLICO of. — Entrusted to the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, this vicariate was erected on 3 December 1938, by division of the diocese of Timmins and Hearst.
Population: 20,700 Catholics; 250 schismatics; 10,780 Protestants; 500 pagans. Their ministry is carried out by 44 priests, 26 brothers, and 48 sisters. There are 68 elementary schools with 2,019 pupils, and 2 middle schools with 62 students. The charitable institutions are a dispensary and three hospitals.
