BALDI, LAZZARO. - Painter, b. in Pistoia in 1623, d. in 1703; he was one of the youngest pupils of Pietro da Cortona. Active with personal works from the mid-1650s, he left his most notable works in the churches of Rome, of which he was one of the most exuberant decorators of the late Baroque period. He received a great many commissions but none of much importance; among his best paintings are remembered those of the church of S. Anastasia and those, of higher value, of S. Maria in Campo Marzio. His works (canvases and frescoes) are in S. Maria sopra Minerva, in S. Giovanni in Oleo, in S. Silvestro al Quirinale and in many other churches.
