BALDI, LAZZARO. — Painter, born in Pistoia in 1623, died in 1703; he was one of the youngest pupils of Pietro da Cortona. Active with works of his own from the mid-1650s, he left his most notable works in the churches of Rome, of which he was one of the most exuberant decorators of the late Baroque period. He received a great many commissions, but none of particular importance; among his finest paintings are those in the church of S. Anastasia and those, of greater merit, in S. Maria in Campo Marzio. His works (canvases and frescoes) are in S. Maria sopra Minerva, S. Giovanni in Oleo, S. Silvestro al Quirinale, and many other churches.
