BALDOVINO V, king of JERUSALEM. — Son of Baldovino IV’s sister, Sibilla, and of Guglielmo di Monferrato, born in 1177, died in 1186. His uncle, Baldovino IV, had him crowned on 20 November 1183, and B. succeeded him in March 1185. Josselino di Edessa and Raimondo di Tripoli continued to govern the kingdom on his behalf; the latter concluded a four-year truce with Saladino. The premature death of the young King B., which occurred in 1186 at the age of 10, left the field open to the disputes among the claimants to the throne of Jerusalem, which prepared the way for its fall.
