BARSANIAN. - Setta monofisistica (v. MONOFISISMO) degli acefali, i quali elessero Barsanufio (donde il loro nome) come loro capo pretendendo consacrarlo vescovo mediante l'imposizione delle mani di un vescovo morto di recente.The I. b., like the other acephali, took for communion the species consecrated by the patriarch Dioscorus, but furthermore sprinkled them with fine flour, and taking a little of this with the tip of a finger, brought it to the mouth. They performed this communion only at Easter. From this flour (πεμβαλῶς) they also took the name semidalites. They did not make the oblation and neglected every other rite. In 815 they merged with the Jacobites.
