BARTOLOMEO di BRUGES. – Philosopher and physician, b. in Bruges ca. 1285, d. probably in 1356. From 1307 to 1309 he was magister artium in Paris; from 1329 to 1342, physician to Guido di Châtillon, count of Blois; nothing else is known of his life. Philosophical works (all in manuscript): Commentarii in Aristotelem, De anima, Physica, Meteorologica, Oeconomica (often cited by his contemporaries); Quaestiones disputatae; Sophismata. As a philosopher, especially as an interpreter of Aristotle, he followed the traditional paths, without introducing new ideas. He was more a physician than a philosopher.
