BARTHOLOMEW of Bruges. — Philosopher and physician, born in Bruges ca. 1285, died probably in 1356. From 1307 to 1309 magister artium at Paris, from 1329 to 1342 physician to Guido of Châtillon, count of Blois: nothing further is known of his life. Philosophical works (all in manuscript): Commentaries on Aristotle, On the Soul, Physics, Meteorology, Economics (often cited by contemporaries); Disputed Questions; Sophisms. As a philosopher, especially as an interpreter of Aristotle, he remained within traditional paths, without introducing new ideas. He was more a physician than a philosopher.
