BASILIO di CORFÙ. – Dissident bishop of Corfu who lived between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and died around 1220. Extremely learned in theological and secular sciences, he is regarded by the Greek dissidents as one of the most distinguished figures of that age. He wrote a letter to Pope Innocent III supporting the dissident position on the procession of the Holy Spirit and asserting the prerogatives of the Byzantine patriarchate. He maintained that the Fourth Lateran Council was not ecumenical. Two discourses addressed to the patriarchs, which have remained unpublished, are also worthy of mention.
