Bernardus Compostellanus Antiquus

BERNARDUS COMPOSTELLANUS ANTIQUUS. - Spanish, professor of canon law. In 1208 he extracted from the registers of Innocent III the decretals of the first ten years of that Pope's pontificate, adding one from the eleventh year, and arranged them in a compilation, which he organized systematically and which was later called the Compilatio romana. This collection was subsequently revoked with the publication on 28 Dec. 1210 of the so-called Compilatio tertia, commissioned from Peter of Benevento by Pope Innocent himself and containing the decretals of the first twelve years of his pontificate (1198-1210). To him are also attributed Notabilia in I et II Compilationem.
