BERNARD of PARMA. - Also called da Botone, a decretalist born in Parma at the beginning of the 13th century, died in Bologna in May 1263. Canon of the cathedral of Bologna.

He is the author of a vast Apparatus on the Decretals of Gregory IX, in which he made especial use of the writings of Vincentius Hispanus and of Goffredo da Trani. This apparatus, which was received as the ordinary gloss, is found in the manuscript and in the printed editions completed with additions drawn ultimately from the Novella of Giovanni Andrea, and it is rich in doctrinal references to canonists preceding and contemporary with B., and in citations of civil-law texts and theories.

He also elaborated the Casus longi on the same Decretals, and this work appears repeatedly in print at the end of the 15th century.
