BERNARDO d'OSIMO. - Capuchin, b. at Osimo (Ancona) around 1527 to a poor family, died there in the odor of sanctity on 23 Aug. 1591. He entered the Capuchins already at a mature age; he distinguished himself by his austere observance: he was a devotee of Seraphic poverty to the point of heroism. Sent to France with other confreres to found the Capuchin reform there, he was elected provincial of Paris. He enjoyed the esteem and friendship of Henry III. He received into the Order Angelo da Joyeuse and Benedetto da Canfield. Having returned to Italy, he published there anonymously a Tractatus de passione Domini in varias meditationes per Hebdomadam distributus, Venice 1589.
