BERNARDO da NAPOLI. – Ascetic writer of the Capuchin Order, born in Naples to the D'Andrea family on 26 October 1819; he took the habit of the Capuchins on 30 January 1835 and died in 1889.
He was professor of philosophy, mathematics, and physics (1844–1849), then of speculative and moral theology (1849–1858). He served as provincial elector in the Chapter of 1858 and as synodal examiner in various dioceses (Naples, Nola, Salerno). He published numerous short poems, among which we recall: *La Cantica* versified from the Hebrew text, Naples 1855; *Il Conce*
pimento di Maria*, ibid. 1855; *La Colomba*, an allegorical poem in ottava rima on the Church; *S. Tommaso d’Aquino*, ibid. 1874; *Pel settimo centenario natalizio di S. Francesco d’Assisi*, ibid. 1884; and various sacred hymns. Worthy of special mention are his ascetical works: *L’amor di Dio verso l’uomo*, meditations, ibid. 1877; *Colloquio tra Gesù Sacramentato e l’anima che l’adora*, ibid. 1878; *Richiamo all’amor di Dio*, meditations, ibid. 1881.
