BERNARDO da OFFIDA, blessed. – Capuchin layman, in the world Domenico Peroni, born in Offida on 7 November 1604, died there on 22 August 1694; he was a shepherd. Having entered the Capuchins at Corinaldo, he received the habit on 15 February 1626, thereafter leading a life of prayer and penance. He was granted the gift of infused knowledge, so that scholars and princes frequently consulted him on the most difficult questions. He was beatified by Pius VI on 25 May 1795. His feast is celebrated on 22 August.
