BENEDETTO da URBINO, blessed. — Capuchin, in the world Marco Passione, born in Urbino on 13 September 1560, died at Fossombrone (Marche) on 30 April 1625. At only twenty-two he obtained a degree in both laws at Padua; on 11 May 1584, he withdrew among the Capuchins at Fano, becoming a perfect example of religious virtue. Chosen by s. Lorenzo da Brindisi as a companion in his celebrated apostolic expedition among the Lutherans of Germany, he spared himself no hardship or suffering of any kind. On returning to his homeland, he devoted the final years of his life to the education of youth. He was beatified by Pius IX on 15 January 1867. His feast is celebrated on 30 April.
