BENEDETTO DI SANT'ANDREA. - Monk and chronicler in the monastery of St. Andrew in flumine in the region of Monte Soratte, he flourished in the second half of the

10th century. He is the author of a Chronicle of his monastery and of the surrounding region, which has come down to us incomplete, lacking both its beginning and its end, and mutilated in the middle as well, in the single manuscript that preserves it (Bibl. Chigi, F. IV, 75). As it survives, it runs from the reign of Julian the Apostate to the year 973. Unpolished in expression, careless in its narrative and in its use of sources, it nevertheless contains important information on the history of the city of Rome in the 10th century, and on events and persons contemporary with him.
