BRIZIO (Briccio, Briccius, Briccius, Brisius), saint. – Bishop of Tours from 397 to 444. A disciple of St. Martino, at first he responded poorly to the Saint’s care; later, however, he proved worthy of being called to succeed him. Driven from the diocese following accusations, he was fully vindicated by the Council of Torino (398), so that shortly thereafter he was able to return to his see, which he held honorably for 47 years. He was buried in the basilica he had built over the tomb of St. Martino. His feast is already recorded in the Martyrologium Hieronymianum on 13 November.
