BERTRIN, GEORGES. — French priest and writer, born in St-Bazeille on 5 July 1851, died in Marmande on 12 July 1924. He was first curate of Marmande, then professor at the seminary of Agen, where he distinguished himself through his profound learning and was consequently called to teach at the Catholic Institute of Paris.
He is the author of various important works, such as: Les grandes figures catholiques du temps présent (1895), La question homérique (1898), La sincérité religieuse de Chateaubriand (1900), St Laurent O'Toole (1903), La criminalité en France (1904), Histoire critique des événements de Lourdes (1905), translated into various languages, Sainte-Beuve et Chateaubriand (1906), L'expiation et la doctrine catholique (1916), etc. Carmine Starace
