Bertrin, Georges

BERTRIN, GEORGES. - French priest and writer, b. at St-Bazeille on 5 July 1851, d. at Marmande on 12 July 1924. He was first vicar of Marmande, then professor at the seminary of Agen, where he distinguished himself for his profound learning and was therefore called to teach at the Catholic Institute of Paris.

He is the author of various important works such as: Les grandes figures catholiques du temps présent (1895), La question homérique (1898), La sincérité religieuse de Chateaubriand (1900), St Laurent O'Toole (1903), La criminalité en France (1904), Histoire critique des événements de Lourdes (1905), trans. into various languages, Sainte-Beuve et Chateaubriand (1906), L'expiation et la doctrine catholique (1916), etc.
